Course Information

- Course Map (PDF)
- Course Description: The Miami Columbia Muddy Buddy at the Miami Zoo features a unique opportunity to compete amongst the wild creatures of the animal kingdom. As the course meanders through the zoo property it will consist of wide dirt roads, dirt paths, some grassy fields, and a limited amount of pavement. The race starts near the main event site and follows a wide semi paved road through overgrown vegetation for about .5 miles before it opens up to a wide dirt road for a fast stretch to the first obstacle, the High Wall. After completing the obstacle, participants will continue on the wide dirt road for about 1 mile. Here the racers will come to the second obstacle, the Low Crawl, amongst a small grove of trees. The pace will be brisk throughout the race as the course is quite flat and a vast majority of the trails are wide and open. The third leg of the course continues on open dirt roads but moves into narrower trails at the end when it enters Larry and Penny Thompson Park. Before the third obstacle, the course will transition to grassy and paved bike paths. At the third obstacle, racers will complete the Balance Beams. On the way to the fourth obstacle, participants will transition from narrow paths in the park back to the wide dirt roads of the zoo. Once back in the zoo, the racers will have their closest encounters with the creatures of the animal kingdom. The racers will continue on the dirt paths just on the outside of the enclosures of animals such as the Gazelles and other African species. From the fourth obstacle, the Inflatables racers will have a wide and fast dash to the finish. Here the course has just two turns and a long straight away on a paved surface to the finish line!

Accommodations
TBAMuddy Buddy Policies/Rules
Refunds/Transfers
All entries are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Changing Your Buddy
What happened? Your buddy decide not to compete with you? They wimp out over a little mud? Don’t sweat it.
- We will accommodate switching ONE buddy per team. Team registration cannot be transferred to two completely new participants. If it is ONE WEEK prior to the race and you have another bud you want to bring along, please fill out our Buddy Change Request Form. You’ll need all of your buddy’s information to fill it out, but we’ll add them to your team, and get you hooked up with your new partner!
- These requests must be received one week before race day in order to be valid.
Natural Disaster Policy
If an Act of God/Terrorism/Community Disaster occurs, what actions are taken?
- We will make decisions based on safety first.
- Races will be altered as seen fit.
- Athletes in that race will have first right to sign-up for that event the next year
- Financial: The Muddy Buddy Ride and Run Series cannot accept the risk of a disaster for everyone. Each athlete needs to accept the risk of his or her entry fee. There will be NO REFUNDS or free entries to other future races. The money you paid is spent developing that race.
Registration Policy
- NSF Checks: In the case of a bounced check, the event will charge a $25.00 fee for all bounced checks. In addition, checks that are returned prior to the event must be redeemed with cash plus the processing fee. Patrons who do not cover NSF checks or who stop payment on checks will not be allowed to race future events.
- Late fees are determined by the postmark date on the envelope. Late fees must be collected before the entry form can be processed.
- In the event of a sell-out, all entries received after the closing date will be automatically returned within 5 business days. Waiting lists will not be established for any events.
Muddy Buddy Rules
- One bike per team (it can be any type of mountain bike, but the course will be a mix of off-road, grass, trails and pavement depending on the market). Participants are responsible for bringing their own bike.
- Both participants will start the race together. All bikers will be lined up at the front of the start line, with all runners behind the bikers.
- While on the course, runners stay to the right side of the trail and bikes pass on the left. Be courteous to those racers around you. Some paths may narrow, so be sure and call out if you are passing by.
- Each team is required to switch skills after each obstacle. You may only switch skills at the obstacle/transition areas. There are 5 obstacles/transition areas on each course with the mud pit several hundred yards from the finish. (depending on the city).
- The biker will drop the bike in the transition area at each obstacle. The runner will complete the obstacle and then find the bike in the transition area.
- Do not wait for your partner after each obstacle.
- Both participants MUST wear a bike helmet at all times with the chinstrap buckled. Participants are responsible for bringing their own helmets to the race.
- Bike number plates will be provided, but we also suggest getting creative with decorating your bike so that it is easily identifiable.
- All racers must have a water bottle on the bike or a hydration system.
- There is NO running, jumping, or diving into the mud pit. Participants will need to crawl through this obstacle in order to complete the race.
- Team must finish the race together! Therefore, you will need to wait for your partner (if necessary) at the Muddy Buddy Holding Area (just before the Mud Pit) adjacent to the finish line in order to cross the finish line together.
- There will be an area to rinse off after the race - so you may want to bring a towel, and extra clothes to change into - you won’t want to miss the post race party and the awards ceremony.
- Sunscreen is recommended.
- Must be 14 years old to participate.
- Everyone will need to sign another waiver on-site or at packet pick-up. Each team member must sign (you can’t sign for your partner) so be sure and get to the event early to avoid long lines at the waiver sign-in area.
- All entries are non-refundable and non-transferable. Once we receive and accept your entry, you will not receive a refund. If you cannot participate, you may not give or sell your number to anyone else and entry fees will not be transferred to another event or from year to year.
- If you are entered in the Beast Division and place in the top three you must be present to collect your prize. This division does require a weigh-in at the award ceremony. If you are not present, the runner-up will be called to the stage for the weigh-in.
- Have Fun!!
World Championship Rules
- In addition to the standard Muddy Buddy Rules. The following rules apply to the World Championships.
- To be eligible for the Competitive Division at the World Championships racers must participate in at least one 2011 regular season Columbia Muddy Buddy event.
- Do we need to be on the same team during the regular reason? NO. As long as both you and your buddy have participated in a 2011 event you both are eligible to compete on the same team for the world title.
Another mud run in November.
This one is too soon for me, but others may be up to the Spartan challenge.
Here’s another race later this year. This one not as awesome as the mud runs, but equally fun.

Oh yeah; 12 mile obstacle course with fire and electroshock wires… freakin’ bad ass.
It’s always disturbing to read about our brothers and sisters in any military branch that have given their lives for OUR FREEDOM. Here’s an email I just received:
Lindsay Lohan, 24, and Paris Hilton got their names and faces all over the news because they went to jail for a few short weeks or days for acting out, negative behavior, resisting arrest, cocaine possession, being drunk and disorderly, not to mention their insolent attitude.
What do you know about these men?
Do you recognize any of their names? No?
None of them starred in a movie or made a record album, hit a homerun or scored a 2 point conversion or did a celebration in the end zone after scoring a touchdown.
None of them brags about “showcasing their talents for their fans” while being paid millions and millions of dollars.
Did that help? No?
Well then I should tell you that they are all Marines who gave their lives for YOU this week.
They died for honor and country. They are all heroes of the highest magnitude.
How much did you read about them ?
Honor THEM by forwarding this. I just did!
We are asking everyone to say a prayer for “Darkhorse” 3rd Battalion 5th Marines and their families. They are fighting it out in Afghanistan & they have lost 9 marines in 4 days.
IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE the message spread if more could pass it on..
God Bless America and God Bless the United States Marine Corps…
Often Tested, Always Faithful, Brothers Forever Honor THEM by forwarding this. I just did!!!
This is just freakin’ awesome. More of a motivation for me to go running.
It’s starting to heat up and it looks like it’s gonna be an amazing year.
What are you going to do this year?
